Notes for Narrative

  • Driving to camp on my mom’s bus
  • A sense of nervousness
  • walking into a college as a kid
  • nervous where to go
  • the smell of a gym
  • talking to her, her being very nice
  • playing games
  • walking into the bathroom and seeing her again
  • asking that big question

This story means so much because it changed the way I thought about people from other cultures and religions. I see so much hate in this world and it is for no reason. When we are all the same but may look different. As a child, I was brave enough to ask a question that may have offended another, but in fact, it changed me forever.

Why is racism still alive?

Can someone who has already made up their mind be changed?

How can we irrigate this forever?

You have a great start here. Love the details of the smell of the gym and riding the bus. Can you capture even more of those details for us? What was the smell? What did the bus feel/look like? Great start. Keep writing!

Awesome start! I really liked the story you told in class, so seeing how you go more in depth is going to be sweet! Could you capture in greater detail her hair? Or what happened after you both left the bathroom? Did you see things differently or was it more of a subconscious thing? Did you ever look at your neighbors differently after or were you still scared of them? I can’t wait to see where you take this story, Keep it up 🙂

    Hey Paige!
I love that you’re expanding on your story from your essay. Some of the descriptors you’ve used really put me in that place with you. Tackling racism and how you’ve overcome bias in your personal life to me are great examples when trying to show how others can overcome their own. How else might you bring the story to life? Would you tie personal comments from others? How might you find the answers to the questions you’ve asked and how will they tie into your podcast.
